Frequently asked questions
How much smaller does the video get?
It depends on the video: a 4K or 1080p phone video often loses more than half its size with medium compression. If the result is not smaller, the original is kept.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. It is read and re-encoded by your browser, using your device’s encoder. Nothing is uploaded: you can check it in the Network tab (F12).
Which formats are supported?
MP4, MOV (iPhone), WEBM and MKV. The result is an MP4 in H.264 when your browser can encode it (Chrome, Edge, Safari), otherwise in VP9.
Is there a size limit?
No limit is imposed. The only limit is your device’s memory: a video of several GB can be slow on an older phone.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Processing happens entirely in your browser, on your device. No file is uploaded or stored. You can check: once the page has loaded, disconnect from the internet and the tool still works.
Is there a file size or number limit?
No. Since nothing goes through our servers, there is no quota. The only limit is your device's memory: a computer handles very large files more easily than a phone.
Is it really free?
